Fence & Post Calculator Guide
How to Calculate Panels & Posts for Your Fence Project
Our fence system is fully modular and sold as complete panel kits by width and height.
Each panel arrives ready to install — no cutting, no slat counting, no height calculations.
1. Measure Your Fence Length
Measure the total linear footage of the area you want to fence.
* Standard panel width: 6 ft
* Divide your total length by 6 ft
* Always round up
Example
36 ft ÷ 6 ft = 6 panels
2. Choose Your Fence Height
Select the finished fence height you want:
2 ft • 3 ft • 4 ft • 5 ft • 6 ft
You simply order panels in that height.
All panels arrive pre-configured at that height — nothing to adjust.
3. Panel Styles
Boston Design — Full Privacy
* Tongue & Groove slats
* No gaps
* Maximum privacy
* Solid architectural look
Each Boston panel is delivered as a complete finished section with proper top and bottom slats included.
Chicago Design — Modern Open Look
* Flat slats with clean spacing
* Contemporary style
* Light and open appearance
Each Chicago panel is delivered fully assembled to the selected height.
4. Panels Shorter Than 6 ft (Optional)
If your layout requires panels shorter than 6 ft:
* Order full 6-ft panels normally
* Panels may be divided into smaller sections during layout
Boston design note:
Because Boston panels are Tongue & Groove, each divided section becomes its own panel.
If you plan to divide panels:
* Simply note how many sections you will end up with in your order
* We will supply the correct components automatically
Example
Fence = 6 panels
Divided into 9 sections
Order note:
“Boston design – 9 sections.”
5. How Many Posts Do You Need?
For straight runs:
Number of posts = Number of panels + 1
Add extra posts for:
* Corners
* Gates
* Direction changes
6. Post Types
In-Ground Posts
* Total height: 94 inches
* 22 inches buried in concrete
* Supports fences up to 6 ft tall
Surface-Mount Posts
* Total height: 74 inches
* Bolts to concrete or solid surfaces
* Ideal for 2 ft – 5 ft fences
7. Post Cutting (Optional)
Posts may be cut to match custom heights.
Extra material can sometimes be reused.
